Lost Season Announcement

  • The Abilene Philharmonic Lost Concert season will begin on December 4, 2021 and run through June 11, 2022. It will be the 71st concert season.
  • The season will showcase some of the cancelled programs from the last two years.

The Abilene Philharmonic is pleased to announce the 2021-2022 the Lost Concert Season. It will be packed with exciting programs that were cancelled over the last two years, along with new programs that highlight some of the most popular works in orchestral music.

Despite the pandemic, the Abilene Philharmonic had a successful 2020-2021 season. Patrons can expect the same high level of enthusiasm and engagement.

The Lost Season will begin with Christmas Movie Magic on December 4, 2021. The family-friendly matinee will feature soundtracks from iconic Christmas movies, such as Home Alone, The Polar Express, Frozen, and more. The program has two showings, with the matinee at 3:00 p.m. and a later show at 7:30 p.m. 

The concert season boasts even more incredible shows including the world’s most famous Brass group! The Canadian Brass Concert is scheduled for January 15, 2022, at 7:30 p.m.

Follow the yellow brick road with music from the Wizard of Oz, Wicked, the Wiz, and Return to Oz performed by a celebrity cast of Broadway and cabaret stars. 

Travel through time and space with The Planets by Holst, featuring awe-inspiring visuals of our solar system that will be projected over the orchestra and choreographed live by visual artist and animator Adrian Wyard. 

Immerse yourself in the Middle East to tell the tale of One Thousand and One Nights through the very popular piece, Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. This performance will also feature Vaughan Williams 5 Mystical Songs, performed by a combination of choirs from ACU, HSU, and McMurry. 

Emerging violinist and fellow Abilenian Faith Fang will share the stage for two dynamic pieces by Ravel and Chausson. The second half of this concert is dominated by the great Russian composer Tchaikovsky, with the beautiful Francesca da Rimini and the powerful 1812 Overture.

The Abilene Philharmonic 2021-2022 Concert Season will end with a spectacular show by Classical Mystery Tour. Set for June 11, 2022, the event marks the return of the world’s most famous Beatles Tribute Band to Abilene. 

The Abilene Philharmonic’s top priority will always be the health and safety of our Audience, Musicians, and Staff. The APO is continuously monitoring the ongoing pandemic and will update concert protocols as needed to create a safe and comfortable concert environment. With effective vacancies, and continued findings surrounding the virus, the APO plans to kick off its 2021-22 Concert Season at the Abilene Convention Center with limited protocols in place.
