The Discover Music Series has been an integral part of the Abilene Philharmonic’s season since 1955. Held annually at the Abilene Convention Center, the series reaches approximately 6,500 area students in grades three through five – including public, private and home-school. Our Music Director designs student-friendly programs alongside a local elementary music specialist who creates the Teacher’s Guide curriculum book, integrating with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) guidelines.
This year’s curriculum guide is written by Abilene ISD Elementary Music Teacher Teresa Graham, who has created an exceptional teacher guide with grade-appropriate concepts and activities. Teresa and the Abilene Philharmonic are excited to present many great resources for teachers including:
• Unique lessons and activities tailor-made for the repertoire of the Student Concerts and guided by TEKS principles
• Information and resources to encourage your students to get to know the composers featured in the concert
• Optional lesson plans to help you teach the materials found in the curriculum in a fun and engaging way
