The Abilene Philharmonic is a part-time per service orchestra, that is proud to employ some of the best musicians in the state of Texas. If you are interested in an audition, please review our openings and procedures.

Fall 2021 Auditions [postponed]

Due to the ongoing Pandemic and the lack of available audition space, the Fall auditions have been postponed. Please check back for Spring 2022 Audition dates.  The APO will continue to accept sub list considerations in the meantime.

How to apply

Please submit the following by the stated deadline above.
  • Online Candidate Information Form and résumé – Please only submit one response, if you need to adjust a submission please contact Abilene Philharmonic Personnel Manager, Susie Rockett.
  • $25 Check Deposit (no money orders or Venmo) – All deposits are refundable unless the candidate fails to cancel a week prior to the audition date.

Audition Process:

The Abilene Philharmonic will notify you once your materials have been received. Incomplete submission of materials may result in a cancellation of your reservation.

The order of auditions will be randomly determined. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your audition time to check in the lobby of the Amy Graves Ryan Fine Arts Center on the McMurry University Campus (1642 Hunt St, Abilene, TX 79605). Those who do not check in may forfeit their time and deposit. You will be given a private practice space 5-10 minutes prior to your audition. Audition times will be sent to each candidate the week of the audition.

Abilene Philharmonic auditions consist of two rounds. The first round is screened, and the committee will be unable to view the candidate. Candidates are asked to refrain from speaking during the first round. Candidates who advance to the second round will be visible by the committee, and the committee will be able to review the candidates’ resume.

Contracts for the 2021/22 season will be offered in May 2021 with the season beginning in December 2021.

 

Abilene Philharmonic Concert Season:

4 Masterworks Concerts (paid at 5 services)
3 Pops Concerts (paid at 4 services)
1 set of Student Concerts (paid at 3.5 services)

Rehersals:

Masterworks (Friday – Saturday Rehearsals) – Saturday Performance
Pops (Friday – Saturday Rehearsals) Saturday Performance (occasionally a matinee and evening program)
Student Concerts – Wednesday – Friday (Paired with a masterworks concert)
Travel Pay and Lodging Provided

Sub List Consideration:

  • Please submit the following materials in order to be considered. Youtube link or digital file of a recorded performance of the audition excerpts for your instrument
  • One-page résume
